what else do you need to know?
really, what else do you really need to know when michael mann handles 2 heavy weights? hopefully, this will turn out like HEAT.
the hazards of love

“hari raya” family photo gone wrong. hehe. via photo booth.
by now, people would’ve probably spread, blogged, tweeted and most probably even mailed on the decemberists new outake – the hazards of love.

to be frank, it takes a whole lotta effort to listen through the songs. very ambitious, very tedious, very tiring. at times, even irritating, especially with the loud metallic guitar twangs. probably because i never expect that to be coming out from colin and gang and some others.
…the story revolves around a couple made up of a human woman named Margeret (as sung by Becky Stark of Lavender Diamond), and her lycanthrope lover William, who haunts the forest by Margeret’s home town. A raft of other characters – including a jealous rival for William’s affections and a marauding murderer – seek to keep the couple from being together, despite Margeret bearing William’s child. When you’re inspired, you’re inspired, I guess. Meloy apparently originally planned this as either an operetta or a musical, before quite sensibly deciding it wouldn’t work and allowing the songs to grow organically. The storyline, then – sometimes hard to pick out, very easy to ignore entirely – becomes entirely secondary to the music. Music which, by the way, is frequently astounding.
still trying to grasp all the songs, but the wanting comes in waves / repaid is really amazingly good. very paranoid androidish operatic soundscape one. listen to it. many times. and it’ll slowly grow on you.
2009 seems like a great year with all these muziks coming in. it’s only march, and 2 albums have already given me the twingles.
guessed you should’ve known the other one by now.
to the faithful departed

it seems oscar’s winners for the foreign film category normally fare much better than the “best” picture winners themselves. the irony of it all.
cliche as it may sound, the hanky may be useful when catching departures (okuribito).
trailer -
thank you. you commie, homo-loving sons-of-guns.

case in note: anne hathaway is fricking ho-ho-ho-hoooooooooooooooooooooooot. *JAIHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!*
and yes, sarip prefers if the dog is shown in pure hindi. more real liddat, no? as long as they don’t ngada-ngada sampai planet jupiter sudah lah kan after this win. ya know, the whole blardy country and all can be a wee bit over-dramatik?
goodbye masturbating bear

i wish cnbc here will stop showing jay leno and move on with conan. like \right now.
chekkit.
be careful what you wish for
wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee…….
2008

it’s that time of the year again – where everyone else will list out their favourite items for the past year. as always, without exception, sarip will like to join in [or isit on] the bandwagon. sarip loves his music and you should too! :]
[it's unfortunate that multiply has suspended the downloads of the music files. at least, users can still listen to the playlist though.]
sarip’s favouritest album/artist/song/feeling-mengfeeling tunes of the year
1. bon iver – for emma, forever ago [listen]
guy breaks up with girlfriend, lives in solitude for 3 months in dad’s cabin, recorded some songs about the heartbreak, dedicated it to her, still talks to her and churns out sarip’s favourite songs for 2008. soothing, serene, heartbreaking, feeling mengfeeling 100 persen.
it seems sarip’s second fav tunes of the year also likes to don flannel wear. oh, these northwestern climes, what air do you breathe.

2. fleet foxes – fleet foxes [listen]
and it’s like not so suspense-surprising kan that sarip was on fleet foxes bandwagon. lush, beautiful, scenic, beach boy-sy / crosby tunes – how not to like? blue ridge mountains performed on letterman sealed the deal, pronto.
legend has it, they are quite nice guys too. super.

3. shearwater – rook [listen]
sarip’s parennial fav band. jonathan meiburg’s voice, tender, melodic, captivating. only qualms [most times in fact on a lot of shearwater tunes] their songs are too short to be appreciated more! still…

4. portishead – third [listen]
ah, beth gibbons. hello you. 1994 you converted sarip, 2008 you still do, even though not as early much. but yes, the rip is one of the best songs for sarip’s 2008. perfect for those late night drive bys. white horses can take sarip away!

5. tv on the radio – dear science [listen]
unlike the previous album, this one is more vivid, angry and does not have the anthem-sing-along choruses. still ‘crying’ is far out loud.
rest of the list
sigur ros – med sud i eyrum vid spilum endalaust [listen]
she & him – volume 1 [listen]
my morning jacket – evil urges [listen]
marnie stern – this is it & i am it & you are it & so is that & he is it & she is it & it is it & that is that [listen]
grails – doomsdayer’s holiday [listen]
girl talk – feed the animals [clicky]
sorry to disappoint – no vampire weekend! hah! though oxford comma is kinda cool.
gigs of the year that sarip went and then tried to become vincent moon but failed miserably
1. explosions in the sky [yeah!]
2. jens lekman
3. broken social scene
4. manic street preachers
come on 2009!
transportuh

frank martin is back! weehoooh!
man on wire
It’s impossible, that’s sure. So let’s start working.
looks solid. webby.
oh, and…
if the ‘C’ disappeared, will the ‘SDP’ stake a claim? this brings to a whole new argument for sarip. if the gahmen is so adamant to pressure its citizens to stop smoking, why don’t they just ban it, like totally? oh we forget. tobacco does bring in biiiiiiiiiiig bucks….yes?
plus!

via sarip’s favrit blogguh.
weak become heroes
oh yes, mr skinner finally put up a new one after all these years.
bias it may seem, but sarip loves the geezer’s stuff.
Jikalau Encik Nolan adalah seorang Mat Rawk…
can’t smile without yewww…
if watching movies is the equivalent to having a meal, let’s simply put hellboy 2 as the appetizer, the dark knight [ONE MORE WEEK!] as the main course and wall-e as the dessert.

hellboy 2 was fun! fun! fun! categorically speaking, i enjoyed it more than iron man or the expected disappointment that is hulk. the sword-spear-play! incest twins! hot literally hot selma blair! the big baby! and johann krausssssss. but sadly no agent john mayers or the super cool kroenan.
but some parts i just don’t get it. the first part felt waaaaaaaaay too much like men in black. and where and when the hell did that crab creature came out from? like suddenly, the next frame -pop!- he appears after our heroes walk for miles and not see a single living thing in sight. and how in the world did the incest twins appear at the golden army’s throne, like suddenly? and what was the angel of death talking about dar dei..?
now bring on the hobbit….in like 4 years taim….
into the wild

at last, finally managed to catch sean penn’s into the wild. typical penn-ish but not overdosed on emo-malt-sugar. and typical of sean penn and eddie vedder combo, the soundtrack carries the emotional parts of the movie.
i am not good in expressing things, but i have to say this show is very absorbing and worth your 2 plus plus hours. it’s based on a true story, depicting the life christopher mccandless who abandoned his possessions, gave his entire $24,000 savings account to charity and hitchhiked to Alaska to live in the wilderness. more of his story here.
i do wonder how is it possible for someone to just abandon everything and live in solitary, to explore one’s thoughts and spiritual being. it’s commendable and inspiring, but i guess majority will just judged on the immaturity and selfishness for someone to do just that. i do however, partly, admire the courage for anyone to do such a thing, and yes, i like to live in solitary environments. i don’t talk much in public and rarely mix with society anyway.
anyways, i’m deeply touched by this show, but then emile hirsch seems to be trying to be the poster boy for river phoenix’s angst in motion typecast with this feature and lords of dogtown before this. enough of it already lah, it’s too uncomfortable seeing him trying to inflict pain and misery and what’s right to the screen. hopefully, speed racer will change all that.
a person is still a person

im such a sucker for cute adorable animals. horton hears a who!
indy
when you’re a child of the 80’s, the only movie trilogies that you care about are the star wars and the indy series. unless of course you have vhs as one of the highly sought after device and then you can watch bujang lapok all week long.
anyways, sarip cannot wait for the new indy series to come out. a bit older, a bit slower, but still he kicks ass! plus, sarip sings the theme when he bathes. especially when he is so the very late to work.
from the trailer, it looks faaaaaably awesome. can’t wait!
some trivia: red wings were originally the suggested boots for indy, but probably they don’t like detroit or something else, they opted for alden boots instead. vair nice.
anyways, raiders of the lost ark is the best of the lot. enjoi.
rambo!

live for nothing, or die for something
oh yes. sly’s at his best. rambo 4 sheds out every ugly image of the modern man. fuck those metro and uber sexualizations. raw is still the deal.
and by the way, the fireworks yest was the so very the lame. pity those who viwed from the other directions. hah hah!
+++
surely, this has got to be the biggest joke in a very long while. i’ll bet A LOT of people will be jumping up and down at the mention of it. ["whoa boy! i can see them live in a competitive match!"]
now listen. they. are. after. your. money. don’t go into the supporter-die-hard-knucklejob-arguements here. they are just after your money. truly. you are going to pay tons [i'll assume if accordance to the current rate of premier league tickets plus the currency conversion it'll be about, erm, 90 dollars for a low end seat?] for a match. and let us not forget about the “hosts” having to pay the endorsement fees, the activation fees, galas, promotions, corporate functions, bla bla bla bla bla. and we always argue about the rich getting richer but then when these things come aboard a lot of people will jump on the bandwagon and throw the money to them who sometimes sulk because they won’t get a payrise of 50,000 pounds a WEEK, and what good will it do to your “favourite” team having to travel halfway across the world during the busiest period of the season. if you love your team so much, boycott this pronto.
and thus this is the beginning of the end of my fascination with the premier league, not that it will really matter to everyone else in the world. [i'm still hoping others will think the same too, oh bummer.]
mclovin’ the irish r&b superstar

oh yes, the michael cera festival was on sunday. “george michael” has sure grown up, fast.
cue in time for the backlash to happen soon. pity, pity.
however, it’s still nice to have a facebook group. or a tv show on the internets.
please hold on ‘cos im on the hamburger phone.
time waits for one man

i think everyone’s raving and hyping about russell crowe’s american gangster. but this one deserved much better.
then again, i’ve always been a christian bale fanboy. yee haw.
be like mike

I gotta be honest with you George, I admit the show’s quite good, but I was paying more attention to Mike’s white dress shirt, dark grey sheened suit and multitude of dark, solid blue/grey printed or not ties with that resolute dimple.
Not to forget, that brown corduroy suit he wore while chasing down Tom Wilkinson, is super fab too.
he’s gone all the way to ipswich!

when mirrormask came out 2 years back, sarip was the so very stoked, possibly due to the endless publicity in the anticipation of neil gaiman’s first (major) movie feature. so, it came to a surprise that not much was said upon when stardust came out. the only (relatively) buzz that was heard of is about michelle’s pfeiffer’s comeback, that’s all.
it was not expected much really going to watch this. from the trailer itself, it looks superficial as it seems to parade it’s “bigger” stars more than the movie itself. sarip thoughts were this will just be another platform for most of us to just go with the flow to see familiar faces on the screen.
